in the sprit of halloween

happy halloween fishers. i just wanted to share this halloween decoration with you. it's in the NY flagship store of one of my favorite designers, alexander wang. they took their inspiration from alfred hitchcock's the birds. how inspiring! it makes me want to run out and battle the crowds at floradec and party city right now and recreate this here in fishcake.

hello happy fishers.

we are busily preparing for h.i.f.f. again. this will be our 3rd year bringing the h.i.f.f. lounge to you. but with changes to location we've had to do a major redesign. we're all working really hard to bring you something fresh and different. can't wait to unveil it next thursday night! see you at the movies!

i also wanted to share a bit of fishcake fabulous today. i love having dinner parties, it's fun to dream up different themes and gather loved ones and have a good time and not have to worry about tipping!! :D here is a little something i've thrown together.

some island inspiration

thank you to isla over at so'mace for this little bit of inspiration and sunshine today. i love these little framed slippers..what an easy and relatively inexpensive artwork solution via the designers attic!


also here to remind you of the kagu+akari show. it's all about the joinery from the of UH students via david landry's summer furniture making class. and of course some new works from our favorite resident artists like mark chai and wendy kim messier.

ok, i know i said i wasn't going to watch but i've been loosely following hgtv's design star..and last night's episode was so inspiring. melissa from unleash studio actually turned me on to this a few months back and i've always wanted to build one. if you have the extra space in your backyard this could be such a fun little office/chill out/club house/teenager room/guest bungalow..whatever you're heart desires.

introducing the tumbleweed tiny house....

they have designs from 65 square feet to 310 square feet. how cool would it be to be able to live/work/entertain in a space this small. although this lifestyle is not for me...i love my shoes too much after all..it would make a great closet!!

eat drink prints

super duper exciting things happening in the store today! ..the honolulu printmakers are in store beautifying the showroom. they are hanging prints that will be up for sale on september 10. we have the honor of hosting this fabulous art filled evening. there will be wine and tasty food catered by ginniberries. tickets are $150 per couple and $130 for single, or $200 at the door (so don't procrastinate)!

whether you are a newly minted fishcake fan or a loyal from the very beginning follower, let me re-introduce you to these itty bitty pettie committee dolls! they had a brief stint of incarceration here at fishcake (then again, who wouldn't love to be incarcerated here) and they are back again.

these delightfully cute creatures are created by jayne hirata, hand sewn from NEW socks with button details that are just to die for. each is individually captivating or maybe even engrossing, once you read the little stories that jayne writes for each of them..and why not, she not only is a energetic crafter, she is also quite a prolific writer..her musings are quite entertaining! check it out here.

at $15.00 a piece, you can afford to bring the whole lot of them home because who knows what kind of mischief they are up to once the doors are locked and the lights go out!
