iPhone 366

how many excuses do you make to not do your art? i know i have a whole truckload. ivan wentland teaches us through example to stop making these excuses. in “iPhone366” ivan shows us that we all can and probably should do art everyday with 366 consecutive daily images without the use of photoshop and much of the tedium that often holds all of us back from this opportunity. “IPhone 366” runs at fishcake from August 2nd through September 15th 2012.

ivan wentland is a photographer. he has his degree in Photography from the University of Michigan. yet, he is also the father of a quickly growing toddler and works 40 hours a week as a stone fabricator. time is very valuable to him. wentland explains, “i started this experiment to show people that it is possible to express themselves well and creating images can be easy and not so burdensome.”

magic plan

my least favorite part about being a designer is taking measurements, i'm always afraid of measuring wrong.  so just when i think i should create an app that will help me do something, someone has already thought of it and created it.  enter, MagicPlan!!!  this might be the end all of great apps for me.  the app helps you measure a room and creates a floor plan for you in seconds.  it's amazing.  my only qualm is that it doesn't work so great when you're room is as big as fishcake.  go figure.  but if you have an iPhone, download it and check it out for yourself.

retail therapy

whenever i'm feeling blue, i always turn to retail therapy. the weather is making me a bit sleepy and a bit sad. so i bought these gorgeous vintage hankies from our "vintage rose" pop up shop. if you haven't come down to visit, please do. it's chock full of memorabilia from the early to the late 20th century. the hankies are just a few of the items that you'll find in that little nook. think vintage jewelry, suitcases, dainty tea cups, milk glass and so much more.

also, debuting this thursday the 12th of april @ 6pm is the aggro roadshow. there will be works of art by big island artists scott yoell, margo ray, keith tallet, sally lundburg, ethan froney, shelby b. smith. click on each individual artist's name and it will take you to their web page.

the valentino garavani

i've always enjoyed the fashions of valentino, even tho my wallet has never stretched quite far enough, there is something you can admire about work that has been hand made with care and year of expertise. and even if you aren't a die hard fashion fan, i'm sure you can enjoy the valentino garavani virtual museum. walk through galleries and view close ups of the clothing and history behind each piece. it's inspiring!

download it here! warning!! be prepared to waste innumerable time during work procrastinating!

let's get sunny!

summer is fast approaching, that means barbecuing, friends and fun fun times. our friends used to gather at our condo barbecue area in past years, but now since we're homeless and living in grammy's house there is much overhaulin' to do in order to get it ready for summer.

i've been browsing pinterest for some fresh ideas for my back yard makeover. but i came across this from lisa's blog (bungalownine). love how clean and simple this looks.

how will you be getting ready for summer?

eat on this!

steve martin dropped these gorgeous dishes off yesterday. they make me want to go out and throw a dinner party. each one is hand made and has a character all it's own. these pieces are available for commissioned work. the lead time is 4-6 weeks, not bad for something hand made in hawaii. the 8.5" dinner plate retails for only $12. and the 7" dessert plate retails for $10. quite the deal if you ask me.

what about us..

honolulu, hawaii
just a few fish in a big pond trying to place our mark in the ocean.
